Cool leather or SRT leather (Sun Reflective Technology - Solar reflective cool leather) is leather, which has been coated with a special coating to reduce the heating effect when exposed to sunlight and heat. On black leather, this cooling effect makes it possible to significantly reduce the temperature.
Main applications of Cool- or SRT-leather are car seats, steering wheels and motorcycle clothing.
Frequently, the question arises whether this type of leather should be treated with special cleaning and care products. When cleaning, the answer is very simple. Dirt covers the properties of SRT. Therefore, stains and soil increase the surface temperature of the leather. A residue-free cleaner, which does not leave any coloured layers (this is true for all leather cleaners) is suitable and even recommendable if the leather is soiled. Since dirt is often not visible in dark leather, it should be cleaned with a light cloth to check if an intensive cleaning is necessary.
Care products are usually designed in such a way that they do not leave any covering layers. Colouring products or products for the shoe sector with strong wax contents should be avoided. Waxes tend to form layers. Too thick applied care should also be avoided. Remove visible excess with a damp cloth moistened with water.
