The hydrolysis resistance of humid leather is tested over a defined period and at a certain temperatures. It is observed when the leather has disintegration and to what extent.

The typical surface cracking of cheaper furniture made of imitation leather is also called hydrolysis.

Moisture from perspiration promotes the disintegration of the leather fibers: Grease collar at leather clothing or sweat stains in shoes.
