In most cases, the fashion companies and clothing shops are not the manufacturers of the leather clothing, nor the manufacturers of the clothing have tanned the leather. This is done by tanneries that sell the leather to the manufacturers of the clothing, which make the clothing for the fashion companies. The manufacturers and tanneries are mostly located abroad, where production is more cost-effective because of the high manual labour input.
