Holes are often punched in leather. In automotive leather, perforations are often made for ventilation or for fashion purposes. These are repetitive patterns and small holes. Leather belts have holes cut or punched into the leather to allow for fastening. leather shoes are perforated for decorative purposes or for breathability, or holes are punched for the passage of shoelaces. Holes are also punched to facilitate the attachment of closures such as buttons, buckles, snaps, or eyelets. Pre-punched stitch holes are often made to allow stitching threads or laces to pass through the leather. The transition from perforation to punching is fluid, and there is no precise distinction.
