The hydrolysis resistance of humid leather is tested over a defined period and at a certain temperature. It determines when the leather disintegrates and to what extent.
The typical surface cracking of cheaper furniture made of imitation leather is also called hydrolysis.
Moisture from perspiration promotes the disintegration of the leather fibers: Grease collar at leather clothing or sweat stains in shoes.
