Thick leather is [[leather]] with a [[Thickness of leather|thickness]] of more than 1.4 millimeters. Normal [[Leather upholstery|upholstery leather]] generally has a thickness of only 0.9 to 1.2 millimeters. An exact determination of the thickness of thick leather is not possible, as the thicknesses of leather varys up to 20 percent due to the heterogeneous skin texture. Bull hides often have a [[Leather grain|deep grain structure]], which also makes accurate thickness measurements more difficult. [[Leather quality|Standardized measuring instruments]] are used to define uniform measuring methods.
